New use for the 404 error page
Ah.. the good old 404 “Opps… Page not found” error page.
Here’s a new twist to the average use of the 404 page other than to telling people they can’t have the page that they are looking for.
Why not use it to help build your list at the same time?
Here’s how it works…
Instead of just showing a plain “Opps… Page not found” page, which is kinda abrupt and rude, how about using your favorite HTML editor and add something to the effect of “but while you are here anyway, here’s a free gift/report/ebook/thingamajig for you!” after the “page not found” message together with an autoresponder webform and gather for yourself a lead just like that?
Basically what we just did was turning the 404 error page into an Opt-in page! We could do the same to the other error pages.

Optin Profits Program by Ewen Chia
In my quest to Internet Marketing success, I’ve just invested US$77 in Ewen Chia’s (his story here in case you don’t know who he is) Optin Profits program to help build and increase my list of subscribers. By the way, in the program he’s giving out the EXACT formula he uses to build his massive list of loyal subscribers.
IMHO a person with a list of 400,000+ (and building) got to be doing something right! Whatever he’s doing to achieve this, I want to know how! heh.
Well, normally I’m a caveat emptor kind of guy and I’ll try to get whatever I need free (yeah.. I’m cheap that way) but this video http://optinprofits.org/optinprofitxproof.html cinched it for me. Ewen’s reputation did alot of convincing also. Heh.

These are just some examples and the possibilities are HUGE. This is a great way to promote products “outside” the usual markets it caters to.
For example, you could promote “Super Mind Power System” to different groups of people like:

- - mind power for sports
- - mind power for magicians
- - mind power for job seekers
- - mind power for people over 50
Use your creativity and do some research!
This one tip will put MORE money into your pockets.

And no it’s not a motivational article but it’s got everything to do with succeeding in the field of Internet Marketing as many experienced seniors will attest.
So what do you need to succeed in your chosen area of Internet Marketing? Be it affiliate marketing, blogging or eBay?
From what I gather from various self-help gurus these are the “tools” needed:
- A plan of action (I purposely highlighted the word action is because a plan without action is just wishful thinking) or strategy, if you like. Can’t hit your target if you don’t know where to aim now can you?
- Setting measurable goals. This one is closely tied up with the point above. You’ll need to break down the plan into smaller goals (or steps to take) to track your progress in completing your plan.
- Change your self-limited beliefs into empowering ones. No point ending up defeated by your mind before even entering into battle. What they say about you being your worst enemy is true.
- Know your values because they drive each and every decision and choice you make whether you realize it or not. Most people fail because their values and actions do not match and they end up self-sabotaging themselves.
- Use your perceptions to breakthrough any past setback or failure that’s been holding you back. See things differently through a shift in perception.
- Learn how to change your State of Mind. Procrastination is a state of mind. So is laziness and fear. How would you like to “turn on” happiness or “turn off” fear of [fill in an object or verb] like a tap?

Since we are on the topic of Internet Marketing books…
Got myself the book above Friday morning and finished it in one seating. It’s an interesting book with vaulable and practical tips and inspiration (well, to me anyway, heh).
It’s basically interviews of 10 local Asian Internet Gurus of various IM fields and their systems of success.
So what did I gain from the book?
That…
-It’s really ALL about marketing (duh). Just like the way we do it in a brick and mortar situation. Just the names have changed. Like for example an affiliate is just another name for salesman. Not so glam now is it?
-To really succeed you ‘ll have to treat whichever field of IM you are going into just like you would any regular businesss. Anything less and you are doomed to failure or close to it. Meaning you’ll have to put in LOTS of effort and action. If you’re the type who is content with routine, looks forward to a fixed salary and maybe an increment here and there yearly, you are better off working for someone else. This is not for you.
-Focus. Focus and more focus. This is main reason most newbies quit after getting their feet wet. Doing to many things at the same time.
-ALWAYS be directing traffic to you site. No point building the mother of all supermarkets in the Sahara where no one knows you’re there except a few camels.
-ALWAYS be building your list (of new emails). No customers = No Sale. Simple.
-Finally, never give up. Nuff said.
For S$18, personally I think the content is worth every cent or not more, at least to a newbie like me.

That’s the mantra everyone is chanting.
But as a newbie in this industry with a email list of 104 unproven friends and associates, how am I going to compare with marketers with lists that range in the 10′s or even 400 thousand individuals??
I mean, yeah all the clickbank cheques on the sales letter look all mighty impressive alright. Everyone of them saying you can also receive the same cheques numbering into the 10′s or 100′s of thousands within 30 days or less if you use their ebook, system, course and whatnot. But somehow I seem to notice the amount of subscribers on the marketer’s list is conveniently left out. Make me go hmmm…
So what to do? Common sense dictates I go build a massive, targeted list myself. And fast.
By the way, what is the BEST list building product on the market right now anyway?

This is the recommended beginner’s course by many experienced Internet Marketers I spoke to to fast track my learning experience of earning a faster passive income and speed up the time and effort needed to set-up a online business on the Internet.
Personally I think it will shave off years of trial and error time, and will also save me a lot of money in the long run, by preventing me from making the kinds of mistakes Corey (the author) made as Internet marketing pioneer. Especially now when the economy is not too robust and I don’t exactly have the money to waste. So every investment must be considered and reconsidered.
Basically it’s a step-by-step-what-to-do and how-to-do-it-the-correct-way system that hand-holds you all the way. Which is how I prefered it.
The reviews on the net also convinced me it’s a worthy investment. Plus the fact that I was lent an old copy. It’s so old that the contents talk about 28.8 baud modems, CGA monitors, Eudora and Navigator. Anyways, after going through the materials once i think the experts will also benefit by reminding the of the basics. And now it’s into it’s 2009 version. For an IM course to survive so long is saying something don’t you think?
Although a little pricier than other IM courses, the best thing is, still, “Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet” costs a whole lot less than similar IM workshops which costs some thousands of dollars a pop.
